ED Statistics, Prevalence Rates and Research

Prevalence rate in epidemiology is proportion of a specific population found to be suffering from a medical condition (typically a disorder or a risk factor like smoking or seat-belt use). It is derived by verifying the amount of individuals found to possess the condition with the overall number of individuals research and is typically expressed as a fraction, as a share, or because the range of cases per 10, 000 people.

  • Point prevalence is that the proportion of a population that has the condition at a particular purpose in time.
  • Period prevalence is that the proportion of a population that has the condition at a while throughout a given amount (e.g., 12-month prevalence), and includes those who have already got the condition at the beginning of the study amount still as those that acquire it throughout that amount.
  • Lifetime prevalence (LTP) is that the proportion of a population that at some purpose in their life (up to the time of assessment) have old the condition.
