Gestational Diabetes and Pregnancy Complications

Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) affects both maternal and fetal health, increasing the risk of pregnancy complications and long-term metabolic disorders. This session will cover risk factors, screening methods, and diagnostic criteria for GDM. Experts will discuss the impact of maternal hyperglycaemia on fetal development and long-term health outcomes for both mother and child. Management strategies, including dietary interventions, pharmacotherapy, and postpartum follow-up care, will be explored. The session will also address the importance of early detection and lifestyle interventions in preventing Type 2 diabetes development in women with a history of GDM.
